Why cut up a whole butternut squash when you can buy it pre-cut? It saves busy moms time and effort, which is particularly valuable with a baby! I especially love Trader Joe’s Butternut Squash Zig-Zags and Cut Butternut Squash.
The Zig-Zags should be pretty easy for any baby to pick up and hold from 6 months on. The Cut Butternut Squash, however, is cubed, so it may be better for a slightly older and more experienced baby – like 7-8+ months, depending on your baby’s dexterity. Nonetheless, it is worth a try to see how it goes, even at 6+ months!
Normally, the Cut Butternut Squash only comes in a one-pound bag. The two-pound bag pictured here was briefly offered over the holidays, just as a seasonal item.
If you don’t live near a Trader Joe’s, don’t despair! Many other grocery stores carry similar items. I have seen similar items at Whole Foods, Pavilions (part of Safeway) and Ralph’s (part of Kroger). Take a look around or ask someone at your local store.
